Today I conquered some lunch at Sushi Huku while running errands. Jey-San told me he had black throat, which is not a?medieval?disease, but a pretty and outrageously tasty fish. Fatty, clean, tender, with a crazy long and sweet finish. I?d bet he will sell out quick, so if you are into this sort of thing, I recommend it.
Breakfast was lasagna ? THE BEST. Mine was a hybrid vegetable and bolognese version, because unless I want to make two pans of lasagna, living with a vegetarian requires it.
Steps ? Made ragu with beef, shredded carrot, onion, garlic, miso and tomato paste (saut?ed), and a few splashes of heavy cream. Made bechamel with nutmeg and lemon zest, seasoned heavily. Sliced zucchini, squash, cauliflower, red peppers. Layered aforementioned items along with mozzarella and ricotta. Baked covered at 450 for 30 minutes, uncovered for 15 minutes at 500F.
The other night I went by Miso Izakaya and The Spence. I had?Sh?ch? at Miso Izakaya, served up by Fable Jeon, former owner of The Pinewood in Decatur. He?s working on some new cocktails for Miso, some with Japanese inspirations.
I then scuttled on over to The Spence to meet a friend who was ordering and consuming wine and food freely.?Sicily?makes some bad. ass. wines. and this is as badass as any you will find. It?s dusty in a Burg way, which I love.
? ?
Had the ?Juicy Lucy? stuffed burger, which was good, but not my style. The fries though ? triple cooked and thick cut ? stellar.
The Porter. They have amazing beer. Cigar City out of Tampa, which is tough to find in Georgia, is a top tier brand. I?ve also been trying every Mikkeller beer (Denmark) I can find. I love wine but there?s not much comparison to beer when it comes to the ability to try a bunch of stuff at a reasonable price. The food is secondary to me when I?m at the Porter, though there are some interesting and well done dishes.

Rumi?s kitchen, the new space (a block over from the old space). Impressive.
I ordered dolmehs (stuffed grape leaves, with beef and rice in?pomegranate?sauce) as a snack and hummus to go. I guess I?m late to the game when it comes to Rumi?s, but it is absolutely on my radar now.
