Tips to Enjoy Better Cooking on Your Camping ... - Travel - EzineMark

There is no better way to enjoy New Zealand during summer than camping. Finding a place to pitch the tent and immersing yourself in the country's wilderness is an amazing experience for those keen on the outdoors.

Food plays an integral part of any camping trip and, despite its importance, can be sometimes overlooked. There is nothing quite like eating a full breakfast cooked on the stove or barbecuing as the sun sets around you and your fellow campers. Don't let yourself be stuck with a can of cold beans for a meal during your adventure; follow some of these tips and enjoy cooking in the outdoors the way it is meant to be.

Prepare your ingredients

Maybe the worst mistake you can make is being unprepared with your preparations. Looking forward to that perfect meal that you've planned for your first night away and then realising that you left the one thing that it desperately needs at home is almost heart breaking!

With a little bit of preparation this will never happen to you. Measure out all the ingredients you need beforehand, use zip lock bags and Tupperware containers to separate and keep them fresh and you'll be surprised to find just how easy it is to spot when you're missing something. It's also a great way to avoid things disappearing or packaging splitting open during transit. Freeze meat before you leave and store it in the cooler so it lasts longer and keeps other food cold at the same time.

Buy the right gear

Having the right camping gear is important for every aspect of your trip and can make all the difference when cooking.

Purchase a high quality stove to take with you and make sure the gas bottle is full before you leave. Being able to work with a number of different heats and a couple of elements will make your food easier to prepare as well as hot and delicious when it's done cooking.

Purchase a set of cups, utensils, jugs and other cookware that you can take with you and use specifically for your trip. Camping cookware is often a lot more durable than what you'd use in the kitchen at home. Find a hardware box or similar for storage and you won't have to worry about anything going missing either.

Don't underestimate the power of snacks

While people might warn against snacking in our regular lives, things are a little different when you're camping. Make sure you take an excess of easy to eat treats and snacks with you to avoid letting your stomach dictate or ruin your pre-planned meals. Pack something easy to take along with you so you can snack with ease if you get hungry in between meal times.
