Ecommerce driven by SMEs and related startups in India are really catching up despite its slow start. Many online shopping ventures has evolved to suit the need and style of the customer. With newly founded companies scoring funding and flimsy startups taking the shape of enterprises with strong foothold in their niche, the online shopping scenario in India is looking good.
Big players are investing heavily and garnering returns from the input. Times Internet Ltd is launching another ecommerce vertical called ?Satvikshop? that will retail Ayurveda products. This move comes as an attempt to expand the online business horizons of the internet giant.
A lot of small and medium enterprises offering products of the same genre and range have registered significant progress, like the Mumbai based NaturalMantra. Though not as big in terms of revenue as the ecommerce portals under the aegis of Times Internet Ltd, it has been able to generate substantial amount of business.
?We are building a two-tier structure. The same products are going to be available on Indiatimes Shopping. For us, these are just different front ends as we have invested time and effort in the back-end? said Satyan Gajwani, the newly appointedCEO of the company who plans to make the firm nimble and profitable.
Times Internet Ltd.?s ecommerce portals are not as big in revenues as dedicated online marts like Flipkart or eBay but it is more capital efficient, i.e. it generates more revenue with a little amount of injected capital as compared to other companies. That is evident as they are supported by a strong backbone of pervasive internet presence as they have shopping, news and entertainment all under one roof and also because of the two tier methodology. The idea of letting different branches of an organization work as independent companies and going through separate branding incites robustness into the structure.
With Satvikshop, Times Internet Ltd opened the gates to a completely new retail segment for itself. The customers who do not reside in big cities or who reside in places which are not listed on the delivery map of some of the smaller organizations ?get benefitted by this move. If everything goes right with the marketing and publicity antics of the company, which by its track record is a cakewalk; success of Satvikshop is a win-win scenario for both the owners and the customers.
