ArtScienceApp iOrnament hits Top 10 Education in 25 Countries

[prMac.com] Munich, Germany - iOrnament, written by math professor and independent developer Jurgen Richter-Gebert, combines art and science, math and fun, creativity and education. Using your finger as a stylus you create intricate symmetric patterns that are "mind-blowing, truly wonderful, very cool, amazing, spectacular fun, beautiful, educational, hypnotic and addicting,..." according to the many user comments on the iTunes App Store.

iOrnament is created in the spirit of hands-on science exhibitions. While you act in a creative manner you almost unconsciously learn about the structures of possible symmetries. The app is likewise attractive if one seeks for creative experiences, relaxation, fun or scientific explanations. It addresses children as well as grown ups, and can be used also in teaching for a very broad range from kindergarden to school and university classes. For users who want to dig into the science a bit deeper iOrnament contains an interactive pop-up book that explains the mathematical backgrounds in a fun and understandable way.

The sole author Jurgen Richter-Gebert is well known for other international award winning visualization projects like the interactive geometry software Cinderella.2 or the internet portal mathe-vital.de. He also created the math exhibition ix-quadrat at the Technical University Munich and contributed interactive installations to various science museums. Among them the German Museum in Munich, which is the largest science museum in Germany with a 100 years history. All these projects are on the borderline of science, creativity, art and teaching. With iOrnament he wants to reach a broad audience with the message that science can be creative and esthetic and that math does not at all start with numbers only. "Math is the science of shapes and structures," he says.

During a "free for 49 hours" promotional campaign on the occasion of the authors 49th birthday the app climbed into the iTunes charts. According to AppTrace it hit the global top 1% of all free apps. Currently the app is rated more than 120 times and averages 4.8 of 5 stars worldwide on the iTunes app store. It is one of the most positively perceived apps that have been released within the last 6 months.
