Ex-Wipro executive Paranjpe to head US energy firm

Bangalore, May 26

Former Wipro joint chief executive Girish S. Paranjpe has been named the managing director of US-based Bloom Energy International, the energy firm said Thursday.

"Paranjpe, who will report to chief executive and co-founder K.R. Sridhar, will develop the global market for our products outside the US and focus on creating new solutions around our server and our flagship electrons offering," the company said in a statement.

The Silicon Valley-based Bloom Energy provides solid oxide fuel cell technology for generating clean, efficient power onsite from any fuel source. Its energy server produces power for many Fortune 500 firms, including Adobe, Caltech, eBay, FedEx, Google, Staples and Walmart.

Paranjpe will also lead an initiative to partner with energy industry innovators and infrastructure providers.

"We are at an inflection point. Having developed and proven the technology in California, it is time to expand our markets. Girish will help us in taking our technology to the global marketplace by building a strong worldwide organisation," Sridhar said.

During his two-decade long association with the global software major, Paranjpe led the strategy and operations of Wipro?s IT business, including services and products.

Noting that developed and emerging countries were looking for breakthrough alternatives to fulfil growing electricity needs, Paranjpe said with Bloom at the cusp of a new beginning, there is an opportunity to do something significant, similar to what he did as part of the IT industry.

Wipro?s former joint chief executive Suresh Vaswani, who quit the IT bellwether along with Paranjpe March 31, joined Dell India in April as chairman and executive vice president to spearhead the global computer maker?s applications and back office operations.
