Every state has county health centers where you can go for treatment. If you make too much money to receive Medicaid, and choose not to buy health insurance, the health centers have sliding scale fees, so you pay only what you can afford, according to your income. These health centers don?t turn anyone away, and treat everyone with respect. They are funded in part by private grants, federal grants, and grants from hospitals for whom they are saving millions of dollars by treating people who would otherwise go to their emergency rooms. For routine health care, the centers are much, much better than the ER!
