Food & Drink | Recipe Sharing Website Reaches 21000 Members ...

A family recipe is usually a well-kept secret. Whether it?s the secret ingredient in your Grandma?s cookies or a recipe passed down through the generations for a special hotpot, being in on a special family recipe is such an honour.

For many culinary enthusiasts out there, getting hold of unique recipes is like finding gold. And let's face it, many of the recipes that you can currently find on the web are either uninsired or are just plain wrong.

That's where recipe sharing website www.mydish.co.uk comes into it. This membership based site has made a lot of dreams come true! Now, with more than 21,000 members, this recipe-based forum allows users to share ideas and exchange recipes, hints and tips with other users. Long gone are the days of searching through a dusty cookbook and calling your long-lost relative for the secrets to a recipe; now all you have to do is turn on your computer and there it is - right in front of you.

All you have to do is print it off, check that you have all the right ingredients and you can start cooking away.

The idea came from Carol Savage as she returned home from a holiday in South Africa with a recipe for Banana Bread in her hand. Carol was worried that special family recipes often end up not as good as they once were because people forget the exact quantities or a particular ingredient. Even worse, these recipes could be lost for every as no one writes them down.

To solve this problem, Carol decided to set up a recipe sharing website. It?s been reported that Dragon Den?s Deborah Meaden has even invested in the project. The website is thought to encourage people who already have a love for cooking but also to encourage new cooks to get stuck in.

The types of recipes you can get from celebrity chefs like Jamie Oliver or Anthony Worrall Thompson can usually seem quite daunting. In face, even the UK's favourite TV chef Deliah Smith sometimes comes up with recipes that are a little too complex for the average home chef. However, family recipes tend to have a traditional and simple approach to creating mouth-watering masterpieces. Complete with tips on utensils, chopping techniques and even links to high quality suppliers, the mydish.co.uk website is extremely easy to use and a friendly community as well.

Users can select recipes by type of cuisine, special requirements and even by the length of time it requires to cook a particular dish. From Cantonese to Lebanese, English to Cordon Bleu French, there is something for every palate here. Whether you are a vegan or someone who only ever eats steak, you will find recipes that are just what you are looking for.

No one likes to slave over the oven for hours on end so why not try out some of the quick recipes to get you started? Just don?t tell your aunty you?ve spilled the beans on great grandma?s secret recipe for gooey chocolate pudding!
